What is a VRV System?
Daikin launched their VRV (Variable Refrigerant Volume) system in 1982 and introduced the world to variable refrigerant flow control. The innovation of the VRV design is that it is a multi-split system that only circulates the minimum amount of refrigerant needed at any given time. This results in greater energy efficiency, more precise temperature control and the ability to install a system that fits your specific needs.
Prior to the introduction of Daikin’s VRV system, a commercial building either had to have its air conditioning on or off. That meant rooms, or whole floors, had to be cooled even if they weren’t being used. Daikin developed a way to allow 64 indoor units to be connected to 1 outdoor unit, allowing for different areas of the building to be set at different temperatures. The ability to only cool spaces currently being used translates into significant savings on monthly energy bills.
In addition to savings, a multi-split system allows for greater temperature control. Some businesses require precise temperatures in certain areas to keep equipment or food cool, while other areas might need to be warmer to accommodate the preference of employees. With the Daikin VRV system, it’s easy to set different temperatures throughout the building.
Another advantage of the VRV system is that it’s extremely adaptable. The outdoor units are modular and there are a number of different indoor units that can be installed so you can design a system that fits your specific needs. Additionally, while the VRV was originally developed as an air conditioning system, these systems can also provide heating. VRF Industry’s first air-cooled system that delivers heading down to -30°C (-22°F) as standard.
