Ensure Your HVAC Company Only Uses Licensed Workers
In mid-November, a contractor in the Halton area was convicted of 45 charges that were linked to unsafe electrical work performed throughout Oakville, Burlington and Hamilton. The contractor was working without an electrical contractor’s license and was found to have done extensive electrical work that was non-compliant with the Ontario Electrical Safety Code. It was extremely unsafe.
As the article states, “the laws for conducting electrical work in Ontario are very clear: only a licensed electrical contractor can do electrical work for hire.” This includes an HVAC company that has to do electrical work as a part of an AC or furnace repair, replacement or installation.
Electrical work can be extremely dangerous if not done correctly and a homeowner can be held liable if the proper permits are not obtained prior to the work being done. Unfortunately, not all HVAC companies employ licensed technicians. When hiring a heating or cooling specialist, be sure to inquire if they are licensed and certified. A reputable furnace and air conditioning company would be happy and proud to tell you about their certifications.
